Dr. Benton is the Founder and former Chief Executive Officer, Chairman of the Board, and Chief Development Officer at Eicos Sciences, where he developed iloprost from September 2016 to December 2024. He has dedicated his 25-year career to the development and commercialization of therapies for patients with rare and pediatric diseases. He has significant experience developing and executing complex development programs in cystic fibrosis, systemic sclerosis, interstitial lung diseases, pulmonary hypertension, cardiology, pulmonary, and pediatrics at Seattle Children’s Hospital and Cystic Fibrosis Therapeutics Development Network, Actelion Pharmaceuticals, Eicos Sciences, and Scleroderma Research Foundation.
Over the past 9 years, Dr. Benton has successfully led and conducted a development program in systemic sclerosis that included phase 2 and 3 trials, nonclinical studies, numerous regulatory health authority meetings and successfully filed an NDA with the Division of Cardiology and Nephrology at FDA and achieved FDA approval for AURLUMYN (iloprost), the first treatment for severe frostbite in 2024 at Eicos Sciences. Dr. Benton has been a Senior Advisor for the Scleroderma Research Foundation’s (SRF) Interstitial Lung Disease secondary to Scleroderma Clinical Phase 2b Platform Study (CONQUEST) since 2021. He has significant experience in all aspects of drug development through commercialization.
